Motor Show Mexico

Automobile production in Mexico fell 23% in September from a year ago due to lower foreign and domestic demand in a recessionary environment, said Monday the automotive sector. However, the auto industry seemed to show signs of a possible recovery from the recession, as production increased 9% between August and September. This was the third straight month in which production increased.

The Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry reported that 146,295 vehicles were manufactured in the country last month, which was the largest monthly amount this year but still a reduction from the 189,345 produced in September 2008. In August, 134,501 cars were manufactured. The association warned that the recent increase in demand might not be sufficient to remove the decay sector. Exports to U.S. fell 35% in September from a year earlier and vehicle sales declined 23%.
